How to Add Your Facebook Fan Page as Your Employer |
|
I was trying to add my existing Facebook fan page as one of my employers on my Facebook personal profile page. I typed in the exact name on my fan page but nothing shows up in the employer list. I thought it has to do with my fan page settings such as changing the fan page category, permissions, basic info... but nothing works at the end. I found this wonderful tips online to help people like me to tag your fan page as your employer.
These instructions REQUIRE you to download and install Web Developer Add-On for Firefox.
-
Go to your Facebook fan page and copy the page id from the URL. If you have created an alias for your fan page (shorter and more relevant URL), you can go to fan page, View Insights and copy the page id from the URL (usually the number after sk=po_)

-
Go to your personal Facebook profile page -> Edit Profile -> Education and Work
-
Type in your fan page name into the Employer textbox and press enter. Don't be panic if your page didn't show up in the list.
-
Right click the Employer textbox -> Web Developer -> Forms -> Display Form Details

-
Enter the page id you just copied from Step 1 into the employer_id textbox and then click Add Job
.JPG)
-
Now you can turn off your Web Developer Display Form Details option (repeat Step 4 and then uncheck the option) and you should see your fan page connected to your personal profile page.
-
Click on View My Profile to make sure your employer link is working properly.

Ways to Prevent Website and Password Hacking |
|
One of my friends e-newsletter and e-mail accounts got hacked in the past weekend. I discovered several methods that could prevent online accounts from being hacked. This information could help anyone on a personal or professional level and should apply to all your online accounts.
-
Never use dictionary words, birthdays, pet's name, address, phone numbers or any publicly available information as passwords.
-
Create a long password (if the system allows) that consists of characters, symbols, numbers and a mix of upper and lower case. Exp. r3dBl@cktr33 or L0v3Me! Please create a password with AT LEAST six characters.
-
Change your password regularly. I highly recommend people to change their passwords AT LEAST once every six months. For more important accounts, please change the passwords every few weeks.
-
Install and update your anti-virus and anti-malware. Some free anti-malware software does not update its definition files automatically.
-
Do not expose too much personal information on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and Linkedin. Hackers might be able to answer some of your online security questions by collecting information from social media sites.
-
Be aware of phishing over the internet. The best protection against phishing is DO NOT click on any link embedded in an email.
-
Do not open email from unknown sender or suspicious email subject line.
-
Be careful on what you surf on the internet.

Yahoo! Site Builder Review |
|
I notice a lot of small business owners prefer to build a website through their web hosting company, Yahoo! Site Builder is one of the popular ones. I encountered many problems while maintaining a Yahoo! site. Here is a list of problems:
-
Since the Yahoo! Site Builder has the "drag and drop" feature for the non-tech user, the HTML and CSS code can be extremely messy. I've maintained a site built by Yahoo! Site Builder where the footer section was at the top of the page (code view) and the header section was at the bottom of the page. The header and footer sections were absolute positioned so they look absolutely "normal" in the design view.
-
I'm not a big fan of its navigation or menu building function. It is not as intuitive as other content management system(CMS) such as Joomla!, Wordpress or Drupal. Very often many non-tech users don't know how to fix a broken menu link and they will just let it be broken or rebuild the entire navigation buttons.
-
Yahoo! Site Builder has a lot of templates but these templates might not truly reflects your business image or identity.
-
Of course Yahoo! Site Builder would only work on Yahoo Web Hosting.
-
Yahoo! Site Builder does not have CODE VIEW. I know their target audience is non-tech users but most popular CMS has this feature.
-
Yahoo Web Hosting is not that cheap!
-
Yahoo! Site Builder might not help you with your SEO (search engine optimization) because it does not have an easy way for non-tech users to insert a relevant meta description for each page.
-
Transferring a Yahoo Site to another web hosting can be problematic.

Back links
Back links are the queen. Don’t be stingy with linking out. This will encourage others to link to you. Build a network of quality back links using your keyword phrase or keywords as the link. When building back links, think quality not quantity. One single, good, reputable link can do a lot more for you than a dozen of poor quality links, which can actually hurt you. Cater to influential sites and bloggers who might link to you, your images and videos or ask to reprint your content.

Internet, the new phonebook |
|
"Who owns a phone book these days?" I overheard at lunch the other day, well as it turns out that many of the people I know, my co-workers, friends, or associates don't have a phone book. In fact after I started to think about it, neither do I. I went on a hunt to find this book. 15 years ago it was indispensable in every home, and every desk. Now I am sure they are still being delivered to all of these places. I finally found one hidden in a hallway of my apartment building, all bundled up, unopened. Apparently, my entire building does exactly what I do, ignore them or throw them away (ok, be green, recycle them). Even before all of this investigation, I was always shocked by businesses that don't have a Website. Do enough people actually have a phonebook, and use it for these places to survive? Should your company invest in a web presence, and/or a phonebook ad? Well, lets take a look.
